For More Than Money

Not Just For The Green (& The Green Will Come!)

High School With A Benzo?

You’ve probably heard the wild and, probably, true stories of 16 year old kids turning into millionaires overnight.

I’m not personally aware of such an occurrence, but I don’t doubt it.  iShoot creator Ethan Nicholas swiftly quit his job after his app hit #1 in the App Store and pulled in $37k in one day (see article here)!

Sadly, these stories are becoming fewer and farther between, but don’t fret homie, there is a solution.

Currently, most of all the big money noise out there is spearheaded by the big guns:

The Big Question

Will you make this for more than just money?

Don’t get it twisted, I want to make money from my apps.  I work hard at it, and I do make money from my apps.

But what if it takes you a long while to make some substantial cake?  What if you never get there?

Will you be happy with the process, with creating, with shipping, with adding value to the world?

I hope so.

Small Goals, Big Rewards

Set smaller goals for yourself:

  • Make enough to pay for the development costs
  • 1,000 downloads
  • 50 Five Star reviews
  • 10,000 downloads
  • etc

Build On It

You aren’t TapTapTap.  You don’t have a squad of full time people hammering away updates and new projects.

It’s okay to be small, just be great.  Add value and good things will follow.

Keep pluggin away, build your tribe, and (if you are so bold to declare) it’ll be you passing The Heist.  Just buy me a beer afterwards. ;)

The Oddest Part

By not focusing on money, it will be given to you.

Carla White created Gratitude Journalâ„¢ because she believed in the importance of it.  She didn’t make it to make money because, frankly, she probably would have gone a different direction.  She made it to add value to peoples lives, to help others appreciate a little more and gain some perspective that she felt so often leads to happiness.

Turns out Oprah caught wind of it.  And you can imagine what Oprah’s backing had done to boost her sales.

Create great, for more than money, and you’ll get where you want.
